About the Association
In 1951, local businessman Ron Whitaker donated land on Davis Bay Road at Laurel Avenue to the newly-formed Community Association. The community hall was completed in 1952.
Over the years, the Association has played a vital role in the life of its community, always with a strong volunteer core. From the beginning, it has provided a gathering space and library services. In the 1970s and ‘80s it ran a group home, operated a daycare, built Brookman Park, provided space to a teen drop-in centre – to name just a few initiatives. In recent years, as the area’s demographics changed and services became more centralized in Sechelt Village, the Association’s volunteers have focused on maintaining facilities for community use and a centre for the neighbourhood.
We continue to support the Teddy Bear Daycare Centre, Music Makers, and baseball field for children and families from all over the Sunshine Coast.
